Jeremy Cross always thought of his life as being normal, but in the wake of a recent tragedy, he’s discovered that his idea of “normal” couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Jeremy is a genetic anomaly—one of only a handful on the planet—with a new ability that no one thought possible.

Thrown into a world of clandestine government agencies, international terrorism, and assassins-for-hire, Jeremy’s new idea of “normal” is fighting for his life.

His only hope of survival depends on reconciling the person he thought he was with the hero he needs to be.

ANOM Awakening The ANOM Series Book 1 eBook Jason R James

This was a quick and entertaining read. I liked the fact that the characters were struggling to come to terms with their powers, and had to face decisions that toggle between right and wrong. Not everything in this world is black and white. While some others weren't overly thrilled with the attitude of the main character, I found him to be like a lot of millennials and thought it was realistic. Nice touch!

I am anxiously looking forward to Book 2 (and then some), and if it'll help I'll gladly buy the author an IPA up at Kelly Green!

ANOM Awakening The ANOM Series Book 1 eBook Jason R James Reviews

What a page turner! Although I'm a fan of historical fiction and rarely read fantasy adventure, this thriller grabbed me right away! Perhaps it was that opening scene that puts the reader right in an ominous Old City Philadelphia -- so vivid and accurate. Most impressive is how the author can incorporate such relevance and universal appeal into this genre. Excellent writing skills! The connection to modern-day threats of terrorism elevates this entertaining superhero fantasy to a thought-provoking contemporary novel. As a school librarian, I see this as a hit for high schoolers and a particularly good pick to win over teens considered 'reluctant readers' but it would definitely appeal to all ages of adults too, including this 60+ year old.
Yes, indeed a page turner, and I am anxious to turn the pages of Volume 2 in the series to find out what happens next! As I finished volume 1 and wanted more, my first thought was ... I wouldn't be surprised to see this story on the big screen someday. If some savvy producer reads Volumes 1 & 2, get ready, Jason R. James to adapt ANOM into a screenplay!
First time author, Jason R. James, writes confidently as he breathes life into this fast-paced, exciting world filled with compelling and complex characters. There are some fun, if not entirely unexpected, twists here and the story serves as a worthy and fun entry in the superhero genre and makes for a tantalizing genesis story and a great start to what surely will be an ongoing series. I can't wait for the sequel.
A good beginning. The characters felt real and their motivations believable. Nice amount of suspense and foreshadowing. He left enough unexplained for future books. It did feel like the protagonist got a handle on his abilities awfully quickly there at the end, but it was reasonably enough explained.
I bought this book for my kid who has taken up an interest in super heroes. Since I like to have some idea of what my kids consume I decided to read the book first. Due to some language and violence I would say this book is most appropriate for young/pre-teens and up. As an adult I found Anom Awakening to be a quick and very entertaining read. I especially liked the dimension of the characters. While they had these super human powers they were also vulnerable to their powers and had to face moral dilemmas and make choices that were not so black and white, right or wrong. This made the characters very relatable. Basically, if you gravitate towards heroes such as Spider-man or the X-men you should like this book. But if you're more into Super-man, who does the right thing because its the right thing to do and never falters then it might not be right for you.

My only con was that when I finish a book I like everything to be wrapped up neatly and this one had a couple of things left to be explained at the end. There was also one character (Gauntlet) that felt like too much of a mystery to me. I would have liked to know more about his back story but I suppose that is what sequels are for.

Overall, this book was worth the purchase. I wasn't disappointed and I'm sure my kid will like it.
not worth the kindle price. Nothing original really and no depth at all. very one-dimensional. Felt the characters were hard to relate to and not understandable. It was an ok read. would recommend to read only to pass the time (maybe on a flight). I felt the ability of the main character was interesting. I wish it was just fleshed out more. maybe book 2 will work out.
The whole genetic anomaly issue revisited. What would we do with such people if we believed they existed? How would our governments react? Would there be good guys, bad guys? Mr. James addresses all of these questions and more in this new and exciting view of "super heroes and villains."
Good read, I liked it.
